Texturizing
Texturizing is a group of cutting techniques that break up the ends or remove bulk so hair looks softer and moves more easily. It matters most for thick hair, which can sit like a helmet or puff out without it, whereas fine hair needs a lighter touch so it does not look sparse. A typical example is lightly thinning the top of a two-block cut so the fringe moves.
